Hydrogen Sulfide Dangers

H2S is common accuring gas in drilling operations and in confined spaces. Measurement of H2S and O2 is needed before confined space Entry. One Breath is enough to kill entrants.

Common person monitors include https://gasmonitor-point.co.uk/hydrogen-sulphide-gas-detector

Short term exposure limit is 15 PPM. PPM= Parts Per Million

More detailed standards can be found here. https://www.osha.gov/hydrogen-sulfide/standards

Sample calculations: convert 15 PPM to Mg/m3

MW of H2S = 1+1+ 32 = 34

PPM = mg/m3 *24.42 /MW

15 = mg/m3 *24.42/ 32

mg/m3 = (15*32)/24.42 = 19.6
